Update on Youth Ministry (FLY) at FLC
Pastor Ben here. Grace and Peace be with you!
This past year, Farmington Lutheran’s Youth Team and Council crafted and posted a job position seeking a part-time Youth Coordinator. At this time, we’re discontinuing that search. Despite some interest, we didn’t find the right “fit” for FLC’s needs. Given the scale of our youth programming and costs of living, a youth ministry position is a challenging role to fill well at part-time. But be assured that leadership is committed to youth programming at FLC, and providing an excellent experience.
Pastor Ben (that’s me!) will continue to lead youth ministry programs this year, coordinating FLY (6-12th grades) and teaching PreCon and Confirmation. Along with faithful members of our Youth Team, and an extraordinary group of Small Group Guides and volunteers (Thank you!), we’re committed to sharing the faith, creating community, and insisting to our young people that they are beloved children of God: all 150+ students we’ll see in youth programs this year.
Additionally, amidst pastoral transitions, FLC is in a good place to take a big-picture look at outfitting and right-fitting FLC’s staff configuration to best serve the church, community, and youth. Incoming Interim Pastor Dana Peterson has particular gifts for systems and vision, and our youth programming will receive attention as a centerpiece to FLC’s mission.
You can help in three ways. First, you can pray for FLC’s youth, leaders, families, and volunteers – and tell them that you’re praying for them. Second, you can volunteer. Mentors, prayer-partners, drivers, substitutes, and treat-providers are all helpful ways to participate. Third, you can keep youth ministry in mind as you consider your giving practices for this upcoming year. FLC Leadership is discerning how to grow and steward budget and staffing to best serve and celebrate youth programming going forward.
“Youth ministry” is everyone’s ministry. Thanks for all the ways you are, and continue to be, in this ministry together, for the sake of our youth, and the world God so loves.
