FLY: Farmington Lutheran Youth

Spanning 6th-12th grades, and collectively known as FLY (Farmington Lutheran Youth), Farmington Lutheran has a big youth ministry with big hopes for our students. At the ground level we want students to know God’s Amazing love for them, through Jesus. We aspire to instill a REAL Faith in students: Rooted in scripture, tradition, and family, Engaged in the real world around us, Authentic in claiming faith and questions, and Lifelong, lasting, and intergenerational. Programming happens through 6th Grade PreCon, 7-9th Grade Confirmation, and 10-12th Grade Senior High Ministry.

Programs

PRECON

Age Range: 6th Grade

Days/Times: Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:15pm, meets 5:15 - 6:15pm once a month for Suppers on the Second with parents/guardians

Description: Our unique place in time has afforded us some fun creativity, both in the absence of a Youth Director and in the flexibility that COVID demanded. In years past, Confirmation has spanned 6th-8th grades. But Pastors, Staff, and Children’s Team agreed that the transition from Sunday/Wednesday School to Confirmation was a big shift – in addition to so many big changes happening at the same time in students’ academic and extra-curricular lives. So! We’ve designed a year of Christian faith formation specifically for 6th Graders to recognize, soften, and bridge these transitions.

PreCon meets Wednesdays, consisting of after-school gatherings and lessons, family suppers at FLC, and monthly Kids in Christ (KiC) events. In addition, each month will feature a large-group service or fellowship activity for all youth, including meal packing, Trunk-Or-Treating, a Buck Hill outing, meal serving, and more.

CONFIRMATION

Age Range: 7th, 8th and 9th Grade

Days/Times: Wednesdays 6:30 - 8:00pm

Description: Confirmation prepares students to profess and claim for themselves faith and promises made at their baptism (probably, but not always, by parents and sponsors). This “confirming” or “affirming” of baptism and faith is done at the service of Affirmation of Baptism. Confirmation follows a three-year cycle based on promises “to teach the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments.” (ELW, p.228)

AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM SERVICE

Age Range: 9th Grade Students

Days/Times: May 4, 2025 at 8:30, 10:30 or 1:00pm

Description: 9th Grade Students who have completed the requirements to be Confirmed must register for the Affirmation of Baptism service on May 4, 2025. Requirements that must be met include regular attendance, worship notes / God sightings (or equivalent), and a Statement of Faith / Faith Project.

SENIOR HIGH MINISTRY

Age Range: 9th through 12 Grade

Days/Times: Wednesday Evenings at 6:30pm

Description: Senior High Ministry (formerly KOIN) meets Wednesday evenings during the program year. 9th through 12 graders are invited to attend for devotions, conversations, and games.

YOUTH BAND

Age Range: 7th through 12th Grade

Days/Times: Wednesday Evenings 5:30 - 6:15pm

The band meets on Wednesday evenings during the program year and leads special worship services during the year.

KiC Events

KiC (Kids in Christ) is designed for youth in grades 4th, 5th grade and 6th. Each month during the school year (September - May) KiC gets together to develop new friendships, learn about God, serve at church, serve the community, and most of all have fun!
