DO YOU HAVE AN ASH WEDNESDAY TRADITION?

Here is my invitation to you to consider making the Season of Lent an especially meaningful time in your journey of faith this year. Maybe you have a long-standing tradition of worshipping on Wednesday nights in Lent, or maybe that hasn't yet become part of your faith journey. Whatever the case, I encourage you to undertake the Lenten "discipline" this year of an extra mid-week trip to FLC for worship - and it all starts tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.  We have a midday service at 11:30 a.m. and then two evening worship opportunities at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. As you enter worship and begin the 40-day journey through Lent, you are invited (if you wish) to come forward and kneel at the altar rail to receive the imposition of ashes in the sign of the cross on your forehead - a powerful visual recognition of dying to sin and rising to new life in Christ.

(Oh, and thanks be to God for those of you who have taken the "Leap of Faith" with an "extra" week of giving in February. My wife Teri and I have decided to use Ash Wednesday as the time for our extra gift. It seems like an appropriate time to be extra attentive to our commitment to the mission and ministry we share as God's people.)

Given for me, too...

"Bread is poison to me!" Many of us would have a very hard time understanding this concept. Yet a person with celiac disease, an immune disorder in which the body cannot tolerate a protein found in certain grains that include wheat, rye and barley, could die from eating bread. People who are diagnosed with celiac have to completely change their diets by removing breads, pastas and other baked goods that include gluten.

How many of you would guess that those that have to maintain a completely gluten-free diet could not fully participate in the communion meal at Farmington Lutheran right now? It is tough to imagine how hard it must be for someone not to be able to receive the gift of the bread of communion!

To accommodate Farmington Lutheran's members that must maintain a gluten-free diet, we have begun to offer a gluten-free wafer at all communion services. Please listen for direction at the time of communion to know where to receive a gluten-free wafer. We hope that this allows all to participate fully in the communion experience at FLC because communion is indeed given for you, all of you!
